S/S Amalfi (Henke ship) Passenger List
Following is the passenger list of the S/S Amalfi (ship picture is below the passenger list) that left Hamburg, Germany and arrived in NY on 8 Apr 1889. This is the ship that Julius Henke, his wife, and nine children came to America on. The relationship, if any, of the first name (Gustav Henke age 21/28) is not known. The second name on the list is also Gustav Henke. His age matches that of Julius Henke. The entry of Gustav as the first name was either a mistake or his first name may have been Gustav and he went by Julius. His name on his marriage record is August Julius Henke. The age and name for his wife Amalie (45) is correct and the names and ages of most of the children are correct; Emilie (21), Bertha (19), Gustav (9, 15*), Friedrich (Fred) (8, 13*), Aug (August) (7, 10*), Herm (Hermann) (6, 8*), Martha (4), Anna (3), and Otto (11, 7* months). It was not uncommon for listed ages to be off. The following three children are not on the passenger list; Augste Alwine Emilie (24), Ernestine Wilhelmine (23), Emma Luise (17). They may have been dead or married and stayed in Germany.
* Actual age based on birth date.
