Julius Henke and his wife Amalie (Wolff) Lived in the LindenWerder, Prussia area where they had 12 children. Old microfilm records list Julius as a "proprietor" which means he owned some type of income property, maybe a shop owner or a farmer that owned land. The records also note that between 1881 and 1883 he was also a town councilor which means that he was involved in local politics and must have been pretty well known in Lindenwerder. He may have also been a member of the town council other years.
The Julius Henke's and nine of their children immigrated in 1889. They settled in Adams County, Wisconsin on a farm that was just to the south of the John G. Bruckner farm. Julius Henke's wife Amalie continued to live on the farm after his death in 1912. In 1913 their son Fred Married Augusta Bruckner who lived on the adjacent farm. The Henke's and the Bruckners had always been close friends and Augusta needed someone to help run the Bruckner farm after her husband, J. Lewis Bruckner, died in 1912. While the marriage happened somewhat out of necessity, it was a good marriage and Fred was a good father to their two children (Dorothy & Annie).
Otto was the only child of Julius and Amalie Henke still living with his mother on the Henke farm after Fred had married. Otto never married. About 1925 the Henke farm house caught on fire. Fred's mother Amalie was a diabetic with serious leg problems. Otto tried to fight the fire while Amalie ran, as best she could, to Fred and Augusta's house to get help.  It was a Saturday morning and they had all gone to church. The house burned to the ground.  Amalie then moved in with Fred and Augusta on the Bruckner farm and died from gangrene of the legs less than a year after the house burned. Otto fixed up the garage as a one room house and lived there until he died at 66 in 1953. He was a loner and it was some time before his body was discovered. There are no longer any buildings on what was the Julius Henke farm.
