Jacob Cady Land Grand

This is a copy of the 10 May 1866 land grant for 160 acres of land obatined by B. A. Cady (grand-father of Myrtle Cady who married Carl C. Cottrell). He may have been given this land after he was discharged from Civil War duty in April of 1866. The map at the below link shows that he owned 110 acres about 1890 so some of the 160 acres were sold, or given, to someone else - maybe to his son Benjamin.

The "United States Regiment of Dragoons", mentioned in the land document, was organized by an Act of Congress approved 2 March 1833. Jacob Cady was apparently assigned the land that had been owned by Hiram D. Andrews who had been a private in Captin Jenifer's company of the 3rd Regiment of the Dragoons. Land was given to men to get them to join the Regiment of the Dragoons and fight in the Mexican-American war (1846-1848). Private Andrews may have been killed in the Mexican-American war.
